2020 is right around the corner, and it’s a tradition for most people to come up with their New Year’s resolutions. It’s not a surprise that they often focus on health, fitness, finance, and lifestyle. However, another area that you can put your effort into is skincare. Here are some of the easy yet effective skincare resolutions you can commit to this coming January 1st.

Resolution # 1: Be Consistent With Your Cleansing

One of the most crucial and non-negotiable steps in every skincare routine is cleansing. The other steps that will follow won’t matter if you don’t do this initiative regularly. With this in mind, it is essential to commit to cleansing your face every morning before applying makeup and do it as well before going to bed

Ensure that the facial cleanser you are using fits your skin type to avoid any irritation. And remember: don’t apply makeup or moisturizer over your dirty skin!

Resolution # 2: Use Broad-Spectrum SPF

A lot of people take the sun’s effect on their skin for granted. But did you know that sun damage is at the top of the list of significant skin concerns that dermatologists advise on every day?

If you’re not diligent with your regular sunscreen application, think again. Maybe it’s time to adopt a better habit. Wearing broad-spectrum SPF on the daily will not only protect your skin from experiencing a sunburn, but it will also help you avoid the possibility of premature aging. Lastly, it will lower your risk of developing skin cancer as well.

The best way to apply this product is to choose a water-resistant formula for the exposed areas of your skin. Reapply it at least every two to three hours. Remember, however, that no sunscreen can fully protect you from the damage caused by the sun. Therefore, it is vital to pair this practice with additional protection measures like seeking shade while walking, wearing protective clothing, and avoiding peak sun hours

Resolution # 3: Wash Your Makeup Brushes

Admit it or not, you only wash your makeup brushes whenever you feel like it. But this habit should stop! Cleaning your makeup brushes at least once every two weeks will prevent you from experiencing breakouts and other skin issues. It will also ensure that you won’t get the germs that accumulate on the tips of your trusty makeup tools.

Resolution # 4: Exfoliate Regularly

Wanting to lessen the time you spend on your skincare routine is understandable. It can be pretty lengthy; maybe you’re late for work, or you’ve had a long day and just want to rest. And it’s okay if you choose to do so on some days!

But, this is acceptable if, and only if, you don’t skip a specific step—exfoliation

Dead skin cells building up on your skin’s surface is one of the fastest ways to have dull and dry skin. You won’t like that, right? So, instead of being pissed at your dull skin during the day, be sure to kick things up a notch.

Take note that you don’t have to scrub your face and skin every single day. All you have to do is set a regular schedule! You can do it two or three times per week, and you have to exfoliate depending on the sensitivity of your skin

Resolution # 5: Apply Face Serum Regularly

If you want to achieve a healthy-looking and radiant complexion, using a face serum is the best go-to solution. Once you start to apply it regularly, it can go a long way in terms of toning and hydrating your complexion. That’s why it’s essential to use face serum after your morning bath and at night after cleansing. Remember to apply it before moisturizing!

Just use a few drops onto your fingers and use facial massaging techniques so that your skin can absorb the product well. Rest assured that only after a few uses, you will feel more hydrated and you will notice that your skin will become plumper.

Resolution # 6: Take Off Your Makeup Before Going to Bed

Whether you admit it or not, you’ve probably had a lot of days where you skipped out on taking off your makeup and cleansing before going to bed. Don’t worry! You’re not alone. There are a lot of people who miss doing this.

With this in mind, you have to put this practice at the top of your resolution list. Your goal is to remove all makeup traces and clean your skin before resting for the day. This extra step in your skincare routine will not only prevent skin breakouts and clogged pores but will also ensure that your skin will self-repair while you are sleeping

If you feel like a full cleansing session is too much for you every night, you can simply keep cotton pads and micellar water on your nightstand. This way, you will be able to wipe away impurities from your face while you are laid down on your bed, without needing to use soap and water.

Resolution # 7: Stop Touching Your Face

One habit that people find challenging to quit is touching their face while they’re not doing anything. Some even tend to pick at spots on their skin. A lot of individuals find this soothing, and it helps them alleviate their stress.

Keep in mind, however, that continuously touching your face with your bare hands and picking spots will only worsen your face’s condition, especially if your hands aren’t clean. Try resisting this habit in the new year, and you’ll see the results in no time.

Resolution # 8: Use a Face Mask at Least Once a Week

Some people consider face masks a treat for special occasions. But, it’s now time to change that mindset. Experts advise that you should always include face masks in your weekly skincare routine. You don’t have to worry about the hassle it will give you since it will only take 15 to 20 minutes, and you can leave it on while you tend to other things! They are the best choice for self-care Sundays

Here are some of the critical benefits that face masks bring:

  • Face masks provide a dose of vitamins and antioxidants
  • Using a face mask will help draw out the buildup of impurities, dirt, and pollution, giving your skin a deep cleanse
  • It will brighten your complexion
  • It will help to relax you

To get the best results, always check the ingredients to see what fits your skin best and leave the face mask on for 15 to 20 minutes. If there is any remaining serum, gently pat your skin until it is absorbed.

Try the Matcha Green Tea Mud Mask from Vivo Per Lei for an added boost of nutrients.

Resolution # 9: Create an Anti-Aging Regimen

No matter what your age is, you still have to come up with an anti-aging skincare routine. If you find the right products that will suit your skin and its needs, you can minimize the presence of fine lines and wrinkles and slow down the signs of aging.

So, what types of products should you invest in?

First, you should use a lightweight cream of your choice. It will make your skin look smoother and feel softer while also lowering the chances of acquiring fine lines over time. Another go-to anti-aging product is eye cream. Since the area around your eye is the most delicate area on your face, it requires special care. Apply this every morning after your bath and after you wash up, before going to sleep.

Resolution # 10: Clean Out and Update Your Skin Care Collection

Most people forget to clean out their skincare and makeup collection, even if they use the same set almost every day. However, your skin needs to adopt this practice.

Start by taking out all of your products from your pouch or cabinet and laying everything on a table. Look and scan through it. Then, list down those that have been opened or unused and have been lying there for more than six months. Once the products reach this timeline, you need to toss them out since they’re most likely expired.

Among all of the tools that you have inside your pouch, the most sensitive items are glycolic acid peels, dark spot correctors, and eye creams. Therefore, make sure to keep tabs on them regularly.

Resolution # 11: Schedule Regular Checkups With Your Dermatologist

One common misconception among individuals is that you only seek the assistance of a dermatologist upon the presence of skin emergencies. Contrary to popular belief, that should not be the sole reason for booking an appointment. To ensure that your skin is healthy or that you are free of any suspicious lesions or moles, you should regularly have skin screenings and checkups.

With this in mind, ensure that you also schedule a date a visit to your dermatologist. Do not rely on when you’re just free or not. Remind yourself that you need this for better and healthier-looking skin!

Resolution # 12: Moisturize Regularly

When it comes to a skincare routine, the magic word is consistency. This mindset is especially true when it comes to moisturizing. Once you find the right formula that will fit your skin and have the drive to use it every morning and night, then rest assured that it will work wonders for you.

So, what is the best facial moisturizer that you can use?

If you’re aiming for intense hydration, check out facial serums that contain hyaluronic acid. On the other hand, use a moisturizer formulated with vitamin C if your goal is to improve your antioxidant protection

Another piece of advice to keep in mind is the importance of applying your moisturizer directly on top of the face serum. Doing so will ensure that your skin is protected and that you won’t feel any irritation.

Resolution # 13: Hydrate Yourself

Here’s a check-in question: Do you drink the recommended amount of water per day?

If your answer is yes, then good for you, your skin is on its way to perfection. If your answer is no, however, now is the best way to change that.

Studies revealed that dehydration affects your skin negatively. It makes your skin appear less fresh and plump. So if you want to avoid this effect on your skin, make it a habit to drink at least one glass of water per hour

Resolution # 14: Stop Neglecting Your Chest and Neck

Some people tend to treat their faces as the center of their skincare routine. Remember, however, that you also have to include your neck and chest area! Take initiatives to care for these areas since these will most likely be the first areas to show signs of aging

To solve this, use multi-tasking products such as balms to cover all your bases. Apply this onto your neck and chest every evening before going to bed.

We’ve enumerated 15 resolutions for you! So, which of these practices should you take up this coming 2020? Throw away your bad skin habits, and take the best practices with you into the new year. Rest assured that you will experience that gorgeous, healthy-looking complexion in no time.
