DIY Turmeric and Honey Facial Mask

Being a foodie brings a lot of perks. Aside from gastronomical delights, I really enjoy using ingredients that are versatile. And two of the most multipurpose ingredients that are essentials in my pantry are turmeric and honey.

Apart from being a staple spice in curries and other Indian and Thai cuisines, turmeric is great for our skin. Turmeric with oil, turmeric with honey, and turmeric with yogurt are three of the most used DIY facial mask combos. The skin benefits of turmeric are pretty impressive. This wonder spice has helped me reduce acne and scarring far too many times. And it has always worked!

Honey, on the other hand, is simply amazing. Its benefits are off the charts. When taken orally, honey helps in our body’s detoxification process. When used as a skin agent, honey is an effective disinfectant.

How to Make Turmeric and Honey Facial Mask

Needless to say, a combination of turmeric and honey as facial mask is a definite hit. A DIY facial mask from these two pantry staples is easy to do, budget-friendly, and very effective. To make this do-it-yourself facial mask, I just combine:

  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon of turmeric

Stir the two ingredients together until you have a smooth, paste-like consistency. Apply the turmeric and honey paste to a clean bare face and neck. Do this gently and avoid the area near the eyes. Leave the mixture on your face and neck for 20 minutes. If you feel a heating sensation, don’t be alarmed. It’s just the way the mixture purifies your skin. From personal experience, the heating sensation isn’t uncomfortable and it doesn’t cause redness or irritation. After 20 minutes, wash off the facial mask with warm water. The paste will come off easily. You can gently scrub your face with your fingertips to remove dead skin cells. Afterwards, splash cold water to your face and neck to close pores. Pat dry with a towel.

It’s very important to note that since turmeric is a bright orange-yellow spice, it’ll stain pretty much anything—from the mixing bowl you’ll use to your face. But you don’t have to worry because the stain on your face is just temporary. I recommend using this DIY turmeric and honey facial mask before bedtime so you don’t have to worry about the temporary stain on your face.
