I don’t tend to write a lot about hair care because I just don’t know much about it. I have a wash-and-wear hair style; I don’t color or heat style, and I only get it cut once every quarter. It’s long and fine so I do have to be a little careful with it because it breaks easily. I was recently told by the hairdresser that it was due to nightly ponytails – the holder was causing the breakage. So I have mostly switched to a bun; we shall see if that evens out the stress points!

I’m a recent convert to cleansing conditioners. For a long time, I was hesitant to try them because I worried that they would weigh down my fine hair. But I was wrong. With the right product, it leaves my hair clean and full and shiny. I tried several different brands, including the very expensive infomercial brand, and finally settled on Ren Pure Vanilla Mint Cleansing Conditioner. I tried their lavender version but wasn’t thrilled with the scent even though I love lavender.

There are several advantages to using a cleansing conditioner, also known as co-washing.

Time Saving
It really is a one-step shampooing process. Instead of having to shampoo and condition, it is a much quicker process! Simply massage the recommended amount into your scalp and hair, and leave it while you complete the rest of your shower tasks. At the very end, rinse thoroughly and rinse again. Side note: I have found that for my hair, I rarely need the full recommended amount.

Money Saving
You have also eliminated the need to purchase all of those extra products.

Hair Saving
Without harsh lathering agents, the cleansing conditioners nourish and moisturize the hair.
