Honey can sweeten up your life in many ways when it comes to the food you ingest, but did you know it can also make your beauty routine sweeter too? Honey has many antibacterial and antioxidant properties, making it a great way to rid your body, skin, hair, and everything in between of harmful bacteria and to keep you healthy and glowing. Below are just a few things that honey can do if you add it to your beauty routine!

Acne
The antibacterial and antifungal properties of honey fight harmful bacteria that can lead to acne. By applying raw honey to acne-prone areas and leaving it on the skin for 10-15 minutes before rinsing, the honey will not only kick that bacteria to the curb, but also cleanse your pores and keep your skin glowing! Honey also helps to soothe inflammation, so you shouldn’t have any problems with redness that sometimes comes from chemically-enhanced skin products. It also does a great job of fading scars—from acne or otherwise.

Eczema
Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, honey is a great remedy for soothing skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea. This, as well as its ability to deeply penetrate the skin to rehydrate it, is also what makes honey a great treatment for sunburn. To treat any skin condition, simply put some raw honey on the affected are for about 20 minutes and then rinse. Or you can mix one part honey to two parts aloe vera to really soothe your skin.

Hair Lightener
There is an enzyme in honey, called glucose oxidase, that slowly releases hydrogen peroxide—a chemical compound that will help lighten hair. Simply add 1 tablespoon of raw honey to 6 tablespoons of water, apply it to your hair, and leave it for 1 hour before rinsing. Do this once a week, and soon you’ll be sporting some lighter locks!

Dark Circles
Possibly for the same reasons honey can lighten hair and help scars fade, it is also said to help with dark circles under your eyes. By applying a teaspoon of honey to the area and leaving it for 20 minutes, you’ll be helping to brighten your eye area! For best results, do this twice a week until circles are faded.

So next time you’re in the grocery store, be sure to add some raw honey to your shopping cart, and prepare yourself for your new glowing skin and hair!
